About Me & This Blog

Hi there! My name is Deon Slabbert, and I am a full-stack software developer.
Over the last 35+ years, I have designed and built several line-of-business applications for the healthcare and insurance industries and have integrated with numerous third-party insurance and banking applications.
I have obviously learned many things over the years. I have learned how to do things and how not to do things and what works in practice and what doesn’t.
My goal with this blog is to teach anybody who is eager to learn how to become a programmer in the shortest time possible. That said, there are no shortcuts, only smart cuts. I will teach you four things:
- Where to start
- What to learn
- How much to learn
- Where to go next
And this cycle will repeat over and over.
I will assume that you have never written a line of code in your life. So we will start from scratch. As this blog is focused on beginners, we will not go too deep into topics. We will learn just enough. There are plenty of resources out there if you want to delve deeper into a specific topic.
The idea is to transition you from Zero to Coder, to Programmer, to Software Developer. Each transition is a matter of scope. A software developer knows more than a programmer, who in turn knows more than a coder.
You will learn that there is a lot more to software development than merely writing code. So you are in for the ride of your life!
Stay tuned.
